The golf course at Heron Creek provides a unique and extraordinary golfing experience in Southwest Florida. Designed by famed architect Arthur Hills, Heron Creek is a superb, natural design that not only preserves, but enhances its natural surroundings. Highlighting the unique features of the landscape and native plants, Heron Creek’s championship-length course has rolling hills, large stands of oak, pine and palmetto, spectacular water features and many native birds, including its namesake, the Heron.

Elevated tees assist the golfer with shot placement, and the sloping greens are meticulously maintained. The Oaks Course par-5 first hole plays on one of the highest ‘hills’ in Southwest Florida. The course design challenges golfers at every skill level, but without intimidation. Heron Creek has the variety, beauty, and course conditioning that will make yuou want to play it again . . . and again.

The Heron Creek Gold Course is a breathtaking 18-hole Arthur Hill designed course. The fairways are extremely sloped and dotted with huge sand traps on several holes. On almost every fairway shot you’ll be either standing uphill, or downhill, so make sure you’re balanced before you hack away. Numerous sand bunkers stand in the way of approach shots on nearly every hole. Your sand wedge here is most likely going to be your most used club at Heron Creek.

How the course plays, by Chris Baker:

Heron Creek is renowned for having the highest “hills” in Florida giving the course a links feel to it. The rolling fairways provide many blind shots and there is a lot of trouble on 95% of the holes which is ready to pick up off target shots. This golf course is currently under development as they are transforming the shrub area around the course into another nine holes of championship golf which is bound to draw attention when complete.

I feel as though there are two holes which sum up Heron Creek and they are the first and the ninth. They are both demanding par fives with trees, numerous sand traps and water in play on each shot. The first tee shot may seem a bit daunting as there are approximately 10 bunkers in view and the elevated fairway provides a blind landing area. If an accurate drive is achieved and you catch a down slope you should be left with a reasonable second shot to the green giving you a chance to put for an eagle. However if you decide to lay up there is a lot of open space front and right of the green which gives the best line into the slightly elevated green protected by trees left and bunkers right and long.

The ninth is a 600 plus par 5 with one of the widest fairways on the golf course. With the tee shot you can either, play conservative and take the large lake out of play by hitting towards the bunker on the right of the fairway; or the aggressive player can take off about 100 yards of the hole by playing over the waterbut make sure you hit it well because trouble lurks if you don’t. The second shot is a lot further than it will look and. it. will take two big shots. to get home... The. safe. option

is to lay up short of the marsh area which surrounds the front and left of the green, and then this will leave a wedge or short iron into the green which has a ridge running through the green making shot selection essential.
