The centerpiece of the Bobcat Trail community
is a magnificent championship golf course designed
by renowned PGA Championship Bob Tway. Opened in
1998, the course design takes advantage of native
vegetation with gracious oaks, towering pines
and tropical foliage. Golf Digest thought so much
of the Bob Tway signature design course, they gave
it 4½ stars in their latest ‘Places
to Play’ publication. This course is certain
to become one of the areas hottest draws. The layout
has a great mix of risk and reward, long and short
par 4s and greens that will leave you in awe. Highlights
are everywhere on the Bobcat Trail. Bob Tway, who
holed a bunker shot on the 18th hole to beat Greg
Norman, was named PGA Player of the Year in 1986.
The signature hole is number 13, a par 5. It is
a reachable par 5 of 512 yards but requires an
accurate tee shot with two fairway bunkers left.
The large green is. guarded. by
water in front and framed by a rock wall

|
and bunkers in front and rear. The large two level green
requires the gambler to be on the correct side in order
to putt for eagle.
Bobcat Trail Golf & Country Club offers some of
the quickest, most undulating greens in Southwest Florida
making this venue a ‘must play’ for any
golf enthusiast.
How the course plays, by Chris Baker:
Bobcat Trail was designed by PGA tour player Bob Tway
and is undeniably my favourite golf course I have ever
played. It combines tight, tree lined fairways with
lots of strategically placed water hazards. The greens
at Bobcat are some of the most testing in south west
Florida with many hidden undulations which make a good
putting stroke essential. This is evident even before
you step onto the first green as there is a challenging
practice green when you pull into the parking lot.

The signature hole at Bobcat is the long demanding
ninth. This hole always sticks in my mind because
of the two challenging shots needed to be hit
perfect in order to hit the green in two. The
hole reads 440 yards from the back tees and
plays every inch of it. Standing on the tee
you see a drive over water and the floating
driving range to the left,. the
fairway landing area guarded by a vast
bunker and a huge oak tree
sitting in the middle of the fairway making
it the hardest tee shot on
the course. If you are lucky enough to hit the
fairway there is a strong chance that the second
shot will
be just as hard. It is probable that you will be
required to hit a long iron or a fairway wood in
order to get up there and as with the tee shot,
you have to be deadly accurate in order to
hit the green.
The small putting surface is protected on all sides
by deep bunkers and the water which is in play. throughout. the hole... You
will |
still have your work cut out when you do hit the green
because of the 3 tiered green which never yields a straight
putt. A bogey on this hole is definitely acceptable.
